Carnforth Poppy Trail Launch

Great turn out tonight to launch our Poppy Trail leaflet and to salute our ‘Men on the Memorial’ who gave their lives fighting to protect us. The leaflets identify local men who fought in WW1, where they lived in the town and a short description about them. These quality leaflets are FREE of charge and have already generated much interest. They will be available from tomorrow from the Council offices, the library, the Station Heritage Centre, Royal Station Hotel, schools and other local outlets. Pick one up!
At the property where they lived at the time, we have asked residents to display a laminated poppy so that you can see for yourselves where these brave men lived.

I hope this reaches you. I see that you have a leaflet about the men of Carnforth who did not survive the First World War. My grandfather George Collinson Watson is listed on the Carnforth memorial. Is he mentioned in the leaflet? Would there have been a poppy outside his house? If so I would love to have a copy. Unfortunately I no longer drive and it has not been possible for me to come to Carnforth to pay my respects. I have visited his grave In Ypres. He has very much been on my mind this year and though I never knew him, my grandmother was a lovely person – she became a midwife after his death as she had no support for herself and my father – and I believe George would have been of a similar temperament.

Hello Valerie, apologies for the delayed response. There is no listing in the leaflet for a Mr George Collinson. If you provide more details I will look into this further.

      Many thanks
