A number of Carnforth residents have made contact with us to enquire if the Town Council had been informed that the planning application for the development of 158 houses at Brewer’s Barn (between the Whelmar estate and Junction 35 of the M6) had been granted outline permission by Lancaster City Council planning committee last week.
To be clear, the Town Council received no warning of the City Council’s decision. It was believed that the application, originally submitted in 2016, had been approved by Lancaster City Council in March 2017 in the face of strong opposition.
Repeated enquiries have been made by Carnforth Town Council and local residents in the intervening period to ascertain the status of the application but without any definitive response from the City Council.
In light of last week’s news, we have therefore requested an explanation from the City Council as to why the approval has taken three years to be ratified and why no notice or warning has been provided for Carnforth Town Council or local residents. We will let you know when we receive a response.
