Carnforth Town Council is celebrating today after being awarded £8,700 in funding from The National Lottery Community Fund, the largest funder of community activity in the UK.
Carnforth Town Council will use their funding to deliver the ‘Carnforth Big Weekend’ to be held from Thursday 2nd June to Sunday 5th June 2022
This new National Lottery funding will be used to celebrate the local community and the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee through a range of activities and events, including National Beacon Lighting (2nd June); School’s Sports & Fun Day (3rd June); Royalty Day & the Big Lunch (4th June) and a Commemorative service & parade (5th June).
National Lottery players raise over £30 million a week for good causes across the UK. The National Lottery Community Fund distributes a share of this to projects to support people and communities to prosper and thrive.
Bob Bailey, Clerk & Proper Officer said: “Thanks to National Lottery players, this grant means that we can celebrate the whole of our community for its collaboration, support and kindness throughout the coronavirus pandemic as well as pay tribute to the Queen’s amazing 70 years’ service to the people of the United Kingdom and the Commonwealth. We have created a working group and full details will be posted on our dedicated Carnforth Big Weekend Facebook page and Carnforth Town Council’s website as our plans develop’
During the pandemic, in 2020 alone, The National Lottery Community Fund distributed almost £1 billion to charities and community organisations across the UK. To find out more visit www.TNLCommunityFund.org.uk
