Carnforth Town Council

Collection and laying of Wreaths – Remembrance Sunday

There are several wreaths in the Carnforth Office awaiting collection. Bob Bailey, Town Clerk will be working in the office tomorrow 10am – 4pm and will open the office again from 10am on Sunday 8th so that any resident or organisation who has placed an order for this year can collect.

As previously posted, due to the new governent guidelines on Covid19 residents and organisations who would like to lay wreaths in the War Memorial Gardens are asked to do so from 12pm.

A small private ceremony will take place at 11am. Our residents and community groups are respectfully asked not to attend at this time but are urged to pay their respects by taking part in the national two minutes’ silence on their own doorsteps.

The private ceremony involving the laying of a wreath by the Town Mayor, Kath Bromilow, will be streamed live on the Town Council’s facebook page.

The Town Mayor commented: “Over the last few years it has been wonderful to see so many Carnforth residents turning out for the Remembrance Sunday Parade and Service – honouring the fallen and remembering the sacrifice of so many Carnforth citizens.

We cannot let the pandemic prevent us from honouring our brave servicemen and women, but we must also ensure that we are doing so in a way that prioritises safety.

That’s why we’re encouraging people to stand with us in solidarity and take part in a collective act of remembrance by observing the two minutes’ silence at 11am from their doorsteps.
