Carnforth Town Council is delighted to be officially supporting the #GreatBigGreenWeek.
Our Carnforth Great Big Green Day is on Saturday 24th September at Crag Bank Village Hall from 10am.
This will be a celebration of action the Carnforth community is taking to protect our planet from the impact of climate change and to enhance our parks and open spaces.We will have a number of contributors on the day who will be available with information, advice and support.
These include (in no particular order):
Lancaster City Council and Lancashire County Council staff explaining what they are doing to tackle the impact of climate change. There will be energy saving advice; information on how to bring your energy bills down and grants and benefits and how you can keep your home warm;
There will be an opportunity to sign up to an all electric vehicle car share scheme being jointly provided by Carnforth Town Council, Lancaster City Council and Lancashire County Council;
KIA Motors will have electric cars on show;Carnforth Town Council will speak about the Carnforth Neighbiurhood Plan – now nearing completion – and its aspirations to be one of the first plans in the country to be carbon neutral;
Representatives from local community groups including ramblers, Carnforth Wombles, Carnforth Rotary Club and Firends of Crag Bank Play Area.You can find out about bee-keeping;
community growing, how to build your own bug hotel amd how to make luggage and other everyday items from bits of material;
Kitty Brown Boutique will be displaying their new range of sustainable brands and demonstrating how they constantly improving on their ‘green’ products and credentials;
Local school and scouts with children’s activities and fun…and much more!
In the afternoon on 24th from 2pm to 4pm there will be a River Walk from Mill Lane (LA2 6ND) that will include fish counting and health checks, an explanation of the solar and hydro micro grid and a woodland walk return.
On Thursday 29th September, Carnforth Town Council will be hosting the Carnforth Great Big Clean-Up, including litter picking and weed clearance.
We are encouraging as many people as possible to join us at the War Memorial Gardens, Market Street at 10am to spend a couple of hours on what we hope will be our biggest clean up yet! Everyone talking part will be awarded with a drink and snacks!
Throughout the week Brief Encounter Bistro & Bar will be serving their excellent vegan and plant-based food.
Carnforth Town Council would also like to hear from anyone who can pledge a ‘random act of greenness’ to reduce their impact on the environment either as a one-off during the Great Big Green Week, or as part of a permanent lifestyle change.
